1. General Educational Information & No Advice

Basic Investor provides general self-directed financial literacy, curriculum modules, and interactive calculation software. Basic Investor does not provide individualized investment, financial, tax, legal, or accounting advice. Nothing on this platform establishes an adviser-client, fiduciary, or broker relationship.

2. No Recommendations, Guarantees, or Solicitation

No content, tool output, or AI response on this website constitutes a recommendation to buy, sell, or hold any security, ETF, mutual fund, or digital asset, or to pursue any specific financial strategy. Investing in capital markets carries inherent risk, including the loss of principal. Past performance of any index, asset class, or model is not indicative of future results.

3. Calculators and Hypothetical Models

Calculators, rebalancing models, and simulators rely on simplified assumptions and user-entered figures. They may omit real-world variables including market volatility, inflation variations, trading commissions, bid-ask spreads, and tax law changes. Results are hypothetical illustrations for educational exploration, not forecasts or promises.

4. Membership Plans & Subscription Billing

Basic Investor offers free educational content alongside paid self-serve subscription plans (Basic Investor Pro and Basic Investor Premium) and one-time feature passes (Personal Investing Report Pass). Pricing is clearly posted on our Plans & Pricing page.

  • Currency: Subscriptions accessed from Canadian edition pages are billed in Canadian Dollars (CAD). Subscriptions accessed from U.S. edition pages are billed in U.S. Dollars (USD).
  • Taxes: Sales taxes (such as GST/HST/QST/PST or state sales taxes) are not currently collected as Basic Investor operates below statutory sales tax registration thresholds. If tax collection applies in the future, it will be itemized at checkout.
  • Payment Processing: Payments are processed securely via Stripe. Basic Investor never stores or has access to your full credit card number.

5. Automatic Renewal

Recurring monthly and annual subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each billing cycle at the then-current standard rate for your plan until cancelled. By subscribing, you authorize Basic Investor (through Stripe) to charge the payment method on file on each scheduled renewal date.

6. Cancellation Policy

You may cancel your subscription at any time with no penalties or cancellation fees:

  • Through your self-serve account dashboard via the Stripe Customer Portal link.
  • By sending an email request from your registered email address to [email protected].

Upon cancellation, your subscription will remain active and you will retain full access to all paid features until the end of your current paid billing period. After that period expires, your account will revert to the Free tier.

7. Refunds & 30-Day Money-Back Guarantee

30-Day Money-Back Guarantee: If you are not satisfied with your initial purchase of a Basic Investor Pro or Premium subscription, or your purchase of a one-time Personal Investing Report Pass, you may request a 100% refund within thirty (30) calendar days of the initial transaction by emailing [email protected]. We will issue a full refund to your original payment method promptly.

Following the initial 30-day window, recurring renewal charges and subsequent periods are non-refundable, except where required by applicable provincial or state consumer protection laws.

8. One-Time Personal Investing Report Pass

The Personal Investing Report Pass provides thirty (30) days of non-recurring access to generate, export, and download your customized 6-page Personal Investing Report based on your entered diagnostic figures. It does not automatically renew.

9. Price Changes

If we adjust subscription pricing, we will provide at least thirty (30) calendar days' advance notice via email to your account's registered address. If you do not accept the new price, you may cancel your subscription before the change takes effect.

10. AI-Generated Educational Content

Certain interactive tools on Basic Investor, including the AI Investing Education Tutor and AI Portfolio Audit, utilize artificial intelligence neural models running via Cloudflare Workers AI. AI outputs are generated algorithmically for educational conceptual review, may contain inaccuracies or hallucinations, and should never be relied upon as personalized financial advice. You are responsible for independently verifying all figures and assumptions.

11. Certificates of Completion

The Basic Investor Certificate of Completion recognizes curriculum completion and practical exercise review. It is a self-study course completion certificate, not a professional designation, licence, regulatory credential, or financial planning qualification. You may not represent this certificate as a professional license.

12. Acceptable Use, Warranties & Limitation of Liability

You agree not to misuse the website, attempt unauthorized access to server infrastructure, scrape protected content at scale, or circumvent access controls. To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Basic Investor is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis without warranties of any kind. Basic Investor, its operators, and contributors are not liable for direct, indirect, incidental, or consequential damages resulting from your use of this site or decisions made based on its educational content.

13. Governing Law & Jurisdiction

These Terms and any disputes arising from them are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the Province of Alberta and the federal laws of Canada applicable therein, without regard to conflict of law principles.
